AO CHALONG YACHT CLUB -

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

FRIDAY 5 SEPTEMBER, 2008

The Ao Chalong Yacht Club is calling a Special General Meeting in accordance with article 12 of the Constitution to be held at the Ao Chalong Yacht Club premises at 19.30 hours on Friday the 5th of September for members to vote on the following single agenda item:

The committee wishes to appoint an Executive Management Group (EMG) to manage the club through the design, construction and implementation phases of the new clubhouse at the new premises. Briefly, the EMG will focus on the following areas:

    • Raising funds needed to develop the clubhouse and associated facilities
    • Managing the construction phase
    • Planning and implementing the new club facilities and services
    • Managing the club and its facilities through the first year or so of operation

The EMG will have full executive powers to position special memberships, sponsorships and donations and to utilize new funds as it sees fit and to implement all aspects of the new club activities and facilities, with the exception of the Club Racing Series and other racing activities that the club may undertake. The EMG will not have any responsibilities in respect of the current club premises or operation.

It is proposed that the EMG begin its role immediately and relinquish its responsibilities at the AGM in April 2010, having set in place a fully operating Yacht Club in new premises. The EMG may request assistance in specific areas from other members as necessary.

Provisional membership of the EMG is:

    • Andy Dowden (Chairman)
    • Mick Kealy (Commodore)
    • Harry Usher
    • Claire Mossop
    • Alan Mossop
    • Bob Mott
    • Grenville Fordham
All EMG members are ACYC members and their contribution is voluntary. No fees or other costs to ACYC are involved. The EMG will report periodically to the committee on progress.

The committee is calling the SGM to secure the full support of the membership for this proposal.

In accordance with article 15 of the Constitution, proxy voting forms are available on request from the club secretary. Email: (mjpescott@phuketinternet.co.th)

NEWSFLASH: ACYC OPEN DAY A RESOUNDING SUCCESS

Last Sunday, 6 July, Ao Chalong Yacht Club (ACYC) held an Open Day on the site of the planned new club premises, on the waterfront at Chalong Bay. The club has a six year lease on the land, with strong prospects of extending the lease in the future.

Over 100 people attended, including ACYC Committee, members, guests and media. The gathering was positively charged with excitement about this new beginning.

The format was an open discussion of future plans for the club, led by the ACYC Committee. Fundraising for the new structures is a critical and urgent issue as the club needs to relocate by the end of this year.

During the day, 19 new members were signed up (representing an instant 30% increase in membership), one existing member bought a lifetime membership at 150,000 Baht and substantial interest was expressed in long term, corporate and family memberships at varying levels.

Attached to this newsflash are the minutes of the meeting highlighting the various discussion and action points.
